Welcome to the online home of the EcoRoamer: The world's first open-source, eco-friendly, family sized, 4x4 overland expedition vehicle. This site, (much like the truck) is still under development and will take shape over the coming months. As we are now making the transition from 'build' to 'explore' you will see some items (such as Route & Blogs) starting to take shape. Watch out for future updates such as: "Kurt's Ridiculous Adventure" video blog and practical info like: "Border crossings for Overlanders and other idiots." In the mean time, thank you for your interest! Please feel free to explore around and learn more about the project. What's different about the EcoRoamer? 1. Family Friendly Maybe you've been stuck inside with your kids on a rainy day. Now try spending 2+ years in a camper with 2 kids. 'Building' everyone's bed every night isn't a pleasant option, so we designed the Eco-Roamer with permanent bedding for four. The interior can also be reconfigured to provide 3 distinct and private bedrooms. Read more about the design here. 2. Environmentally Friendly If you're going to drive a large diesel vehicle around the planet you are bound to make an impact on the environment. Our goal was to design a vehicle that minimizes that impact through the use of: recycled or sustainable materials, bio-diesel and carbon offsetting. Read more about the eco elements of the design here. 3. Open Source Everything we know about overlanding we learned from the kind sharing by other travellers in the expedition community. So, with the EcoRoamer we decided to give a little bit back by making the entire project. All of our research, design docs, CAD files, all of it, is available to be shared and referenced by others in the community. The more EcoRoamers we can help bring into the world, the better. Visit the Open-Who? section for more details. 4. Community Oriented We don't want to just see the world, we want to help make it a better place. We started the Muskoka Foundation as a way to create programs and toolkits for the EcoRoamer -and other overlanders- to make a difference in the communities we visit. The truck has an external water purification loop for providing clean drinking water wherever we go, a mobile classroom which we will use for our 'village MBA' business classes, and an outdoor theatre that we'll use to screen kids entertainment.
